Stress can be a huge part of life.
With bills to pay, juggling work life and family life at home it can get a bit too much.
However, you may want to choose
how you handle stress.
You can either let stress take over or you can take steps to relax yourself and lower your stress levels.
Stress has been directly linked to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease just to name a few.
3 Easy Ways You Can Help Yourself To Relax and Manage Stress:
i. Take Deep Breaths
ii. Practise Gratitude
iii. Self-Massage
Let's go through the 3 simple steps you can do on your own:
1. Take Deep Cleansing Breaths
First you have to realise that you are stressed.
Notice the signs as your body is sending the stress signals:
- Does your heart rate increase?
- Do you feel your fists clench or your brow furrow?
- Do you feel grumpy or begin pacing?
- Does your mind race with negative thoughts, worries, or doubts?
You should stop everything when you start to experience stress.
Try the following steps:
1. Take 4 to 10 deep cleansing breaths - (Each breath lasts for a 12 count).
2. Count to 4 in the inhalation and try to breathe in through your nose.
3. Hold your breath for 4 counts and then exhale through your mouth for 4 counts.
4. Repeat until you feel the stress signs disappear, and you feel calm and in control of your emotions.
Step 2 - Be Grateful
During difficult times it helps to count your blessings.
Studies have shown that gratitude helps a person feel more joyful and happy.
*Being grateful helps you see things in perspective making you more optimistic and resilient.
*Keeping a journal is one way you can approach this
When you're grateful for what you have, the downside of life won't feel quite so overwhelming.
So, if you're having a bad moment, or dealing with something that's stressing you out, try counting your blessings.

Step 3 Self-Massage
Massage and the power of touch have been shown to release anti-stress hormones.
These hormones actually create a feeling of calmness throughout your body and help you manage stress.
Of course a professional massage isn't an option for everyone. It's not always convenient.
You can learn a few self-massage techniques to help you de-stress.
By massaging your hands, neck, temples, head, or your feet you can start to feel relaxed.
Acupressure and reflexology are other ways to help reduce stress and improve wellness.
